Her painted rocks are currently for sale at Devon House in St. Carla has an interest in various crafts, including knitting, sewing, crochet, needlework, quilting and rock painting. Carla's pieces have been purchased by both private collectors and the Provincial Government. Her work has been shown in various art galleries in the province. Crawford is an obstetrician-gynecologist in Johns Creek, Georgia and is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including Emory University Hospital Midtown and WellStar. Her drawings and portraits have been sold throughout North America and parts of Europe. Although she has done work in watercolour, acrylics, and oils, she works primarily in prismacolour and graphite pencils. Carla was a finalist in the Artist's Magazine Drawing Competition for Canada and the United States. During the past several years, Carla has acquired numerous awards for her drawings and portraits, including honourable mentions from the Newfoundland and Labrador Art's Competition. She received her formal training in Toronto where she studied Fine Arts and Graphic Design for four years. Carla is presently a member of the Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Visual Artists of Newfoundland and Labrador (VANL). Her daughter Skye is currently living in St. She teaches painting and drawing in the Graduate Fine Art department at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and lives with her husband and sons in Sonoma County in California.Carla Crawford is a Newfoundland artist who resides with her husband Terence and son Ryan in Foxtrap, Conception Bay South. Her work has been shown in galleries and museums across the country including in the de Young Museum and the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery and is included in the permanent collections of the Butler Institute of American Art, the Crocker Art Museum and the Museu Europeu d’Art Modern. She co-curated the Giorgio Morandi and Wayne Thiebaud show at the Morandi Museum in Bologna, Italy in 2011. She has received the Alfred Ross and Art Renewal Center Grants for Artistic Excellence and was given an Award of Exceptional Merit from the Portrait Society of America in 2016. From 2012-13 Carla spent the year in Spain making master copies at the Prado Museum.Ĭarla has been an artist-in-residence at the School of the Arts in San Francisco, the Hudson River Landscape Fellowship and at the Whiskeytown National Preserve in conjunction with the de Young Museum. Deciding to devote her full time efforts to drawing and painting in the classical tradition, Carla moved to New York to undertake a 3 year course of study in anatomy, portraiture and classical painting at the Grand Central Academy of Art and spent an additional year studying in the director, Jacob Collins’ private studio. She returned to California to pursue a degree in Art Education at San Francisco State University and taught art in public schools while studying at the Atelier School of Classical Realism in Oakland. ![]() While in Italy, Carla became enamored with classical oil painting and after graduating she remained in the country for six months teaching art and art history and making master copies at the country’s national museums. While at the University of California, Carla spent a year in exchange at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, Italy and an additional year studying at the Institute of Architecture in Venice. ![]() ![]() Carla Crawford graduated with degrees in Art Studio and Italian from the University of California, Davis, where she studied under the painter Wayne Thiebaud.
